Rachel’s Training and Techniques
My foray into the healing arts actually began with my theatre major in college! I planned on becoming a dramaturge. Someone who connects a play with the mind of the popular culture to deliver a key message. I cared deeply for my craft. But found that the people enrolled in my masters program with me were coming from an intellectual rather than heart centered place. After much soul searching I decided I wouldn’t be happy working in my chosen field and began looking for alternatives. I grew up receiving massage and knew in my bones that it was something I could do well. Here was my chance to effect the world one body at a time.
Formal Training
I enrolled at The Lauterstein-Conway School of Massage in 2006 and began my journey into manual therapy. I thoroughly enjoyed the curriculum. And towards the end of my study I was introduced to Craniosacral Therapy. Again, I knew in my bones that this was something I could do well and my next step forward. I studied Craniosacral with the Upledger Institute, mastered the core curriculum and then found my own approach to the material.
The Phenomena
I noticed that there were often physical phenomena associated with sessions. These were not discussed in the classroom. Phantom noises, smells and sensations in my own body to name a few. I was curious and devoted myself to exploring these often ignored experiences and the deep questions they present. I then found a way to connect not just with the body’s inner wisdom through the cranial rhythm, as is taught in Upledger classes. But how to also connect with a client’s higher power through contact with the hands.
Mindwalking
This approach, which I call mindwalking, creates a doorway into my clients inner world. It models a safe connection and is always a reliable source of valuable information. The higher power can be anything from Jesus to Santa Claus as long as it is bigger than us and unconditionally loving. It always tells the truth. Alerting me to what is at the bottom of my clients condition and offering a path forward.
I am happy to say that my theater background still serves me well. It allows me to shift the quality of my presence to fit the person in the room. I also do a great job singing Disney songs for my pediatric clients! I am proud to have found a career that allows me to connect deeply. And to express unconditional love to a society that so deeply needs it.
